Gürol Ağırbaş
The renowned bass guitarist Gürol Ağırbaş comes from a family full of musicians; his grandfather İsmail Ağırbaş was one of the of the early saxophonists, while his uncle Yüksel Ağırbaş and his father Salim Ağırbaş were jazz drummers, and his elder brother Birol Ağırbaş is a meritorious percussionist. In spite of being brought up in such a family, until graduation from high school he was hardly interested in music. When he was graduated from Sultanahmet Industrial High School, seeing that he had no future in this field he began to play the bass guitar under the supervision of his father. His professional music career got started when he began to play with İzzet Uğurlu Orchestra. In the beginning of the 1980s he was playing in Fındıkzade Saray Wedding Saloon. But the turning point in his music career was joining the İbrahim Şahin Orchestra.
