Barlas Tan Özemek was born in Istanbul in 1987. Whilst studying Music at Bilgi Univesity, Barlas crossed paths with Korhan Futacı and Selim Saraçoğlu who both became long time collaborators. Together they formed the band Korhan Futacı ve Kara Orkestra, which gave numerous concerts both in Turkey and abroad. Around the same time, Barlas started working as a music producer and an arranger. One of the co-producers of Gaye Su Akyol’s debut album “Develerle Yaşıyorum”, Barlas also produced Yasemin Mori’s album “Deli Bando” together with Korhan Futacı. He recorded and produced music with some of the most prominent names in avant-garde and improvised music scene. He shared stages with legends like Peter Brötzmann, Joe Mcphee and William Parker. Alongside the avant-garde jazz band “Marika”, which he formed together with Berke Can Özcan and Korhan Futacı, Barlas performed improvised concerts with KONSTRUKT. Barlas performed with influential Turkish musicians like that of Bülent Ortaçgil, Sezen Aksu, Yasemin Mori, Gaye Su Akyol and Göksel. In 2017 Barlas started his career as a solo artist and released his first track “Ayna Kırıldı”. Around the end of the same year, Barlas recorded his second solo track Kediler perfomed it as a duet with Bülent Ortaçgil. Following the success of these two releases, Barlas produced his first solo album “Yalancilar Kahvesinde”, released by Ada Music in September 2018.
