Çiğdem Erken’s music life has got started at the age of seven when she began to play the piano. After graduating from Ankara State Conservatory, she has continued her musical education taking her MA and PhD degrees from the Faculty of Music and Performance Arts in Bilkent University. There she has learned so much from Ayşegül Sarıca about being a pianist and from Yücel Erten about making music for the theater.
Between the years 1994 and 1999 she performed in Ankara State Conservatory as an accompanist and an orchestra artist. During the same years he also has given lectures in Ankara State University and in Boğaziçi University in the Faculty of Music and Performance Arts. After 1999 she has worked as an associate professor in the Arts and Design Faculty in Yıldız Technical University. There she has given lectures on the piano, chamber music, music for the theater and the musical form.
In 2008 she has been granted the award of “The Best Theater Music” by the critics for her musical performance in the play "The War will Break Out After the Interval” written by Oldrich Danek and directed by Yücel Erten. She has also received the award of “The Authentic Theater Music of the Year” by the Lions Club with her performance in the play “Binali and Temir” (adapted from the story of Murathan Mungan) performed by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatre.
She is giving concerts with her music group composed of her close friends, performing the songs she composed herself. In the beginning, because she was keeping herself aloof from professional music life Erken has become known with her music videos broadcasted in video-sharing sites such as myspace and facebook. Receiving considerable attention she decided to release her first solo album "Kız Kafası" with the label of Ada Music, mostly including songs in d-minor. Erken is carrying on her music career as a theater musician, pianist, music director and composer with new projects.
