Mazlum Çimen
He was born in Kahramanmaraş as the son of a family of Tunceli origin. He learned to play the baglama in his early childhood. He entered the State Conservatory to study the violin and four years later he entered the ballet department of the same institution. After graduation in 1981 he began to work as a ballet artist in State Opera and Ballet. He started his musical studies with compilations. His father introduced him to folk music with whom he travelled to compile folk songs and alevi songs and found the opportunity to meet the master minstrels. Then he started to produce film musics with the support of his step father, İhsan Yüce and Onat Kutlar. His first work was “'Aysarının Zilleri” followed with “Mem û Zin” which he made with an anxious desire, for the film was produced in a time when Kurdish was banned. He put signature under many projects including soundtracks, documentary films, TV series and drama musics. With his film musics he received fourteen awards including the ones from Altın Portakal Film Festival, Altın Koza Film Festival and Montpellier Film Festival. In sum, he never returned empty-handed from the festivals he attended as a candidate.
