Turkish Rock band Kumdan Kaleler (Sand Castles) was founded by Tuna Kiremitçi, Kerem Doğrar and Cem Coşkun in 1992 and performed music until 1998. 1990’s proved to be a productive decade for Turkish rock; many important rock bands such as Mavi Sakal, Kargo and Mor ve Ötesi met with the audience during these years. The first album of the band “Denize Doğru” (To the Sea) took its place in Turkish rock music in 1996. The album included adaptations from the works of famous Turkish poets besides the compositions of Tuna Kiremitçi. The band drew attention at first with the grand prize from the Altın Mikrofon (Golden Microphone) Music Contest. They gave place to precious musicians such as Sumru Ağıryürüyen, Ozan Tügen and Muammer Ketencoğlu in their subsequent album and concert projects.
