Asiaminor
The band was founded in May 1990 by guitarist and composer Kamil Erdem. The other members of the group are as Tahir Aydoğdu (zither), Yahya Dai (saxophone and flute) and Zafer Gerdanlı (drum). Kamil Erdem beginning his music career with the classical guitar, he turned to the bass guitar because his passion for primary sounds. Then he gradually became interested in jazz music and the contrabass. On his individual music style Anatolian, Balkans and Middle East folk music had a great effect. He developed his compositions and way of playing using and instilling the melodic and rhythmic elements from these conventional music styles and the band gained recognition with this specific music style. Still Kamil Erdem and his band never broke their ties with mainstream jazz. After its foundation the band gave many concerts and took part in many festivals both at home and abroad for more than ten years. The first album of the band “Along the Street” (Sokak Boyunca) was released in 1991 in Vienna and in 1994 in Turkey with the label of Ada Music. Their second album “Longa Nova” was released in 1994. Then came the third album “Cat’s Dream” in 1998. Although Asiaminor disbanded at the beginning of 2000’s, the individual members actively carry on their music life.
