Ahu Sağlam
Her album 'Hüznün Kolları' (The Arms of Sorrow) was released with the label of Ada Music. Emphasizing that they had no populist concerns in this album, Ahu Sağlam defines it as the product of a ten-year accumulation and cooperation with the Rapsodi Music Band. She does not characterize the style of album as “folk music,” for the vocals and instruments bear the effects of Western classical music as a result of her very background. Her music education began in 1988 in Ankara State Conservatory, Faculty of Opera and Performing Arts, and in Gazi University Faculty of Music. So she thinks that the album is one according with this education. Despite this classical style, she notes that great care is shown to preserve the original folk tone of each song and not to lose the authentic values of folk music. The consequence of this pursuit of different possibilities in folk music is a productive synthesis. Completing the studio process with her own resources Sağlam makes use of the TRT Repertory and recent publications such as the collected songs of Hamdi Tanses while constituting her own repertory. And of course she took good advices from her friends knowing which songs goes well with her voice. The composition of the song that gives its name to the album also belongs to Ahu Sağlam, which points out her identity as a compositor.
