Şevket Akıncı
Şevket Akıncı was born in İzmir and lived abroad till the age twenty-one as the son of a diplomat father. He began to play the guitar at the age of twelve and during high-school years he performed with various amateur rock groups recording some demo albums consisting of his own compositions. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, he settled in Ankara in 1994 for two years. He collaborated with jazz musicians such as Tuna Ötenel, Yahya Dai and Sibel Köse. He released his first album “Uçurumda Açan” (Blossoming in the Brink) in 1996 with the label of Ada Music. One of the songs in the album, “Sonbahar Kaçağı” was selected among the thirty best songs of the last thirty years by Roll magazine. In 1997 after settling in Istanbul he gave harmony, solfege and jazz guitar lessons in Bilgi University for three years.
