Şevket Akıncı was born in İzmir and lived abroad till the age twenty-one as the son of a diplomat father. He began to play the guitar at the age of twelve and during high-school years he performed with various amateur rock groups recording some demo albums consisting of his own compositions. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, he settled in Ankara in 1994 for two years. He collaborated with jazz musicians such as Tuna Ötenel, Yahya Dai and Sibel Köse. He released his first album “Uçurumda Açan” (Blossoming in the Brink) in 1996 with the label of Ada Music. One of the songs in the album, “Sonbahar Kaçağı” was selected among the thirty best songs of the last thirty years by Roll magazine. In 1997 after settling in Istanbul he gave harmony, solfege and jazz guitar lessons in Bilgi University for three years. With the trio he founded with Neşet Ruacan and Kamil Özler he gave various concerts in universities and night clubs. In 2001 he founded the group Lifeline with Yahya Dai, Emre Tukur, Mümtaz Solmaz, Eylem Pelit and Cem Aksel. The group released two albums in 2003 and 2005. After parting with it in 2005 he founded Mugwump with Korhan Erel, which is the ambient electronic music group and an audio-visual Project at the same time. He carries on his music career taking part in many such projects.
